The U.S. Government does NOT fund abortions, ever, except in cases of rape, incest, or harm to the woman's life. Period. The U.S. Government has funded Planned Parenthood to give "health services" to women and families, not including rape. Well, today, 240 Congressmen decided that politics should trump this good policy, and voted to de-fund Planned Parenthood. Many are angry, and want to take action, and they should. This, like anti-union actions in the states, is bold-faced politicking, meant to destroy all things progressive in this nation, and render opposition to the Corporate Republican Party's agenda pointless.You know who needs to take action though? The President and the Senate. If these clowns in the U.S. House think they are going to use a government spending bill to take action on all of their pet issues, the Senate needs to pass a clean bill and refuse their joke of a spending bill. The President needs to stand up and say that he will veto their bad bill, no matter how much pressure they bring on him, and show the courage to lead that we elected him to do. His Presidency has been historic, and the GOP has done it's best to try and destroy it. It's time to fight back. For all of 2010, the Democratic Party allowed itself to be intimidated by a fringe movement of bullies, and allowed it's spirit of 2008 to die. We need to call on our old-school spirit as a part, the spirit of FDR, of Kennedy, and of Clinton, as he faced down Newt Gingrich during his shut-down attempt. Do not be intimidated by the bullies in the House, turn their taunts on them.
