The Time Is NOW To Defeat Walker and the GOP

Last night, the Wisconsin Senate Republicans and Governor Walker did something extremely politically dangerous to pass their union busting bill, in pulling a legislative end-around to get their bill through. In doing so, Walker had to admit his argument all along, that eliminating collective bargaining rights was a fiscal move, was not actually a fiscal move. Basically, Walker admitted he lied all along, but he doesn't care. He got his way.

You can call him a rat-bastard if you'd like, but I'll say this is the first smart thing Walker did politically. Bringing this bill up was politically stupid: sure, you might get rid of unions in Wisconsin, and maybe won't have to compete with them in 2012, but you will open yourself up to a ground-swell of negativity that will run against you in 2012, and it's not something you ran on in the 2010 elections. Ending it was not stupid. Walker has already taken the political hit, he's probably finished with his 60% disapproval (according to RASMUSSEN), so he might as well pass this bill. If he doesn't, he looks incompetent to his supporters. By doing so, he preserves what he has, and can hope time passing might save him. Besides, if his bill somehow stands up to oncoming Democratic majorities, over time people will accept it as the norm.

With that said, the time is now to crush Walker, his supporters, and his movement. We have from TODAY, now, until 2014's election. While conservatives are whining about totally legitimate re-call efforts against them, the fact is that we can easily take down two State Senators in Wisconsin without much effort. Sure, it's hard to get a re-call on the ballot, however it's doable, and we'll win some seats now. This dispute has mobilized the Democratic base in a way that President Obama had actually failed to on his own. Suddenly, people are taking notice of the attempts to end-around a union busting bill in Michigan. Suddenly, the media is reporting that Governor Christie in New Jersey just makes up stuff to support his arguments, or more bluntly (for his sake), lies. Suddenly, people in Iowa are noticing that Governor Branstad is full of crap when he claims he's "personally sacrificing." Suddenly, Sarah Palin's support is literally, down to just the Tea Party membership. The tide has changed since November. A weak GOP field for President, a surging base, and motivation at the core has Democrats looking at a great opportunity to win, and win big next year. The time is now to start though. Re-call the "Wisconsin 18" who pushed through their bill. Re-elect the President.
